Petrol Maintenance, if you have invested in a petrol lawnmower for your garden. Chances you will want to look after your investment. Instead of wheeling the mower into the shed and forgetting it until spring. Further, prepare to make sure the mower will be ready to mow in springtime.

Always read your owner’s manual before you start any maintenance on your lawnmower. Learn the tools or equipment ready at hand.

Book in for a service

Our workshop gets busy from February onward and there could be a backlog of weeks. If you book in before Christmas, you won’t stick without a mower and grass reaches to your knees.

If your lawn mower is under warranty, you will need to have it serviced by an allowed dealer. The same ourselves to confirm the manufacturer’s warranty.

Remove the fuel

In our workshop, the most common issue with petrol engines is stale fuel. The fuel has ethanol, and this causes the petrol to deteriorate after a few weeks. It leaves if the fuel in the engine it can wreak havoc with your carburetor and cause starting problems. When you add a fuel stabilizer, it can extend petrol’s shelf life by up to 3 years.

The stabilizer is mixed with fresh petrol and stops the fuel from deteriorating. After adding the stabilizer, run the engine for 5 minutes. Make sure the treated petrol works through to the carburetor. If you haven’t used a stabilizer, drain the fuel out of the engine before it’s put into storage.
